Decowood shutters are crafted from engineered wood panels known as MDF (medium-density fiberboard) and finished with a patented polypropylene coating. Essentially, they are real wood in an advanced, highly durable form. MDF is created by breaking down small wood particles into individual fibers, which are then pressed together with polymers under high heat and pressure to form solid, long-lasting panels.
Engineered wood is one of the most eco-friendly materials available, producing very little waste, with up to 95% of each tree utilized. The timber used for Decowood shutters comes from rapid-growth trees, allowing for accelerated replenishment, and is sourced exclusively from FSC-certified forests, ensuring sustainable and responsible forestry practices.
Decowood shutters offer superior consistency and durability compared to traditional solid wood shutters. They are free from common defects and imperfections often found in natural wood, providing a flawless finish and reliable long-term performance. Construction
Our shutters are built using reinforced engineered wood stiles, created through a proprietary process that bonds multiple layers of wood for exceptional durability and structural strength. The overlapping rabbet stiles enhance light block-out, while traditional mortise and tenon joints—commonly used in furniture and building construction—ensure the shutters can withstand the stresses of regular use, making them highly reliable and long-lasting.
To further protect the shutters, a versatile polypropylene coating is applied. This durable finish is environmentally safe, releasing no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and meeting the strictest international standards. In addition, UV inhibitors in the coating prevent colour fading and yellowing, ensuring your shutters maintain their fresh, like-new appearance for years.
